6IX RISING: Toronto’s Rap Ascendance (Full Length Documentary)

It’s no secret Toronto has recently placed itself amongst North America’s most buzzworthy music cities due to the blockbuster ascents of Drake and the Weeknd. But that attention has also turned the city’s local rap scene into a hyper-competitive, prolific, and highly creative environment where young artists are fighting for attention on the world stage.

Noisey’s latest documentary feature is set in the middle of this vibrant scene, to profile some of its most exciting artists who are potentially on the cusp of international success.

Featuring Big Lean, CMDWN, Friyie, Jazz Cartier, Pressa and Prime Boys.

  1. not a fan of them glorifying pressa. i get having him in the doc and his music is good but the guy helped in a kidnapping where they made two 17 year old play russian roulette and perform oral sex …

  2. im super late on this doc but this shed some serious light for me and where I come from in the city. very motivating to see these artists support any form of art and such a strong motive towards the fans.

  3. Recently? WTF you talkin bout? I''m from the west coast of Canada and can tell you Toronto has been turning out heat for decades. Long before Drake or Weekend!!Kardinall, Ghetto Concept, Choclair and many other pioneers paved the lane for every one who's come after. F*ck Drake and The Weekend……

  4. Yo noisey come back to the six side you missed alot from the city come back for the real documentary this is hard but come thru again for better u feel me but shoutout to you better something than nothing

  6. I kinda see what's going on in rap as the same thing that has been going on in other aspects of society. SMH…I think that the real hip hop community should come together and create their own industry. The hip hop World Trade. Own shows, conferences, etc. So much talent out there.

  7. Im from Toronto and its not hard. Walking through a "hood" is no big deal. It usually consists of mostly normal folk trying to get by with a couple wannabe gangster black kids trying desperately to act like they are from some inescapable project. Its not true. There is no inherently rough areas in toronto. Only areas where a few a trying to give it some reputation because they saw it on some American movie or rap video.

  8. Canada is a great rich country, why are these guys trying to make it be a hood? Be proud of who you are, don't be a fake thug. you are not Americans, don't try to be
