i agree. on the other hand, when did we stop striving for excellence? we aren't respected as a people because we don't respect ourselves. notice i didn't say "liked", i said "respected". why we don't respect ourselves is another conversation entirely. i think those that cry out about perpetuating stereotypes are basically saying that we need to bring back some self respect.
respectability politics is bullshit. 'pick are own selves up'? How, how can we beat systematic oppression? you can preach about how black people need to stop perpetuating stereotypes all you want but that is not the problem. Respectability doesnt stop you from being perceived as threat in our society. its the people making assumptions based on those stereotypes that are the problem.
No cointel assassination by the F.B.I. kept us down. Believe me you/we have done nothing on our own if it had not been for W.E.B. DuBois, Delta Sigma Thetas, F.O.I., M.L.K., Black Panthers and there free lunch program, Thurgood Marshall, and the NAACP. You will never be able to do anything on your own because no one knows enough to do anything on there own, even Bill Gates got together with a group of friends to create windows. Even the founding father(S) stood together.
i was taught that fathers came home every night, that mothers clothed you and fed you, that graves were for those that grew old. look at how far we've come in our own history and look at where we've stalled. it is no ones fault but our own. if someone was keeping us down we would have stayed down. we got this far on our own and only we can pick our selves up. people already assume that we want free rides. i wont perpetuate that stereotype. if someone needs help they need to rely on themselves.
some people are simply a hindrance to progression. there used to be prosperous black neighborhoods in nyc, where i come from, now there are slums that people avoid. I was raised to have old fashioned values when it came to my own people so i assumed that all black men were strong, upstanding warriors, who lived on hard work. i went to school in an area where my own people were stabbing each other in broad day light. where girls went missing only to be found in pieces.
since i expect more from my own people i am called a nazi. how odd. i have watched a seemingly impossible number of people buy jordans with cashed in foodstamps instead of buying food. i have watched friends of mine drop out of school to pursue drugs instead of going to college, i have watched tired teachers begging these kids to go back to school. kids that simply didnt want to be helped. 6 boys that had promising futures are now dead because they didnt want to help themselves.
Your nazi/white nationalist philosophy is terrible and you should be the leader and stop breeding yourself. There problem is not that they don't want to help themselves its they don't know if people want to help or hurt them.
You can't help those that do not want to help themselves. You can't help those that do not want to be helped. We people in ghettos stop over breeding, filling the system up with unwanted children, stop selling drugs and filling hospitals and morgues with the overdosed, injured and dead, when they stop battering each other, funding worldstarhiphop, lil wayne and other artists that promote our downfall, then i will care and gladly do something. so far, i have no reason to do anything.
