Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh’s 1985 hit “La Di Da Di” has become one of the most sampled songs of all time. Hip-hop is a genre built on sampling, borrowing from the greats of James Brown’s “Funky Drummer” and The Winstons’ “Amen Brother”. Alongside “Children’s Story”, Slick Rick’s voice has been used in over 1,000 different tracks and counting, but what is it about the MC that made him so ideal for sampling – let’s find out.

i think 2 thick is the most sampled
Simple it’s the amen break
Now do the most sampled non-hip-hop song.
"Funky Drummer"? "Ashley's roach clip"?
Those are not samples you idio t
In the words of someone smarter than me
"ITS ALL BEEN DONE"
“Leatq – Journey”
FYI:
Its been sampled in 1044 songs! Imagine that!
Recently started listening to slick rick. I missed something special for a long part of my life.
Pierre named himself after The Godfather of sampling, I’ve heard nothing but straight heat from Pierre since 2018.
Why no mention of Snoop Dogg's Lodi Dodi from '93?
We need less white people with a little understanding of hip hop making videos like these. As multiple comments have stated, you don't even understand what a sample is.
People make the most generic wishes when they talk to the man
Yeah it kinda sounds to me like all these other songs are just referencing this old hip hop guy by quotation not all of these are sampled
Whooo heyyyy whoooh heyyy
What about amen break?
Yo pierre wanna come out hear?
Sampled???
i like how nowdays if its sound similar it also refer as "sample"
Nah those are lyrics cuzz but that's interesting tbh.
I'm a big fan of listening to you at first because it sounded like you were rapping on top of the music
I was like… isn't that Slick Rick!?
I always loved lodi dodi of snoop dogg IT IS A REPRISE AT THIS POINT. it is like to discover a cover of this song this feels so weird
I just found you on my recommended, your editing is absolutely amazing. Honestly you deserve so much more recognition.
2:48 I think that Snoop Dogg samples that too, but I dont remember the song now
Btw the most sampled artists I have ever seen are Slick Rick and The Isley Brothers, maybe Marvin Gaye can sneak round there too
This and Bring Da Noise by PE!
When you hear so many songs these days sampling the songs from 20 years ago – samples upon samples – does that make it a cycle?
This was a pretty damn good video. Keep it up.
the amen break:
Am I a joke to you?
The "hit it" sample from it takes two is also used in Read These Nikes by the geto boys
I would argue that the most used sample is Amen Brother by The Winstons. The drum break in that track has become far more influencial than "La Di Da Di".
no
The most covered yes.
great video Good shit my boi
The editing of this video is super good! What presets and software do you use?
In Pines of Rome, Respighi wrote into the score a que to start a gramophone of bird sound effects in the 3rd movement. I'd call that the earliest occurrence I know of (1928)
I love ladidadi
Arguably, the sound from Herb Alpert's Rise makes Hypnotize more than any borrowed line.
