  1. I always get a little emotional watching this moment. I vividly recall watching these Olympics in 92 during my school summer holiday as an 11 year old boy. I was moving to secondary school and leaving behind childhood. That summer never seemed to end and these Olympics sparked a lifelong passion for sport, particularly the Olympics. I watched every day of those games, from morning till night, thrilled by the everything I saw. Linford's win was the highpoint but made timeless thanks to David Coleman's sublime commentary. He really lived the race and his excitement only made it more special. As a grown man with a busy life and family I'm not able to enjoy an Olympics like I did back then but I've promised myself to take a few weeks off during future Games to appreciate it fully. RIP the peerless David Coleman and nuff respect Linford, you legend.

  2. Remember him winning the European Indoor 200m and he was knocking on in athletics terms even then. To then take the failures at Olympic and World finals on the chin and finally come good here shows the measue of the man.

  3. Christie has to thank the inflexibility of the American trial system that ousted Carl Lewis from that race and from a certain gold medal. An Olympic champion in the 100m with 9.96s was ridiculous even for that time standards. It is important to remember that Carl had broke the world record in the previous year with 9,86s.

  4. It's so funny how the comments sections for all these races are full of people bitching about steroids. Your fat asses aren't worthy to carry any of these men's shoes, even the doppers. Just sit there complaining on your computers all day while others train and make history.

  5. This is a magnificent piece of commentary from Coleman who was so derided at times for howlers. Concise, didn't get carried away with the result, gave the 1-2-3 and then congratulated Christie. You can hear the emotion though where he says "The greatest prize in sport".
