Lord Jamar shared his thoughts on a recent tweet that came from Rakim’s page, which stated that we are witnesses the “devolution of rap music,” which Jamar said he totally agreed with. The Brand Nubian rapper went on to explain how Rakim changed the game with his style, and how he considers Rakim to be the “God.”

During the conversation, Lord Jamar spoke with DJ Vlad about wanting new music from both Rakim and Nas, which you can hear more about above.

  1. what you hear on the radio or what is most played by distributers, is not the truth of rap nor the culture of hip hop. people follow those streams of access because the business behind it all is their to capture your attention. But as a business, it picks and chooses what will sell most. what will gain the most profit. as such, your not getting the truth of the Art, you getting a false impression of what they want to sell to you. sex sells, luxury wealth and excess sells, violence, sells, vulgar, sells, self indulgence sells, and thats what the business paints the picture of rap and hip hop. Its goal it for you to empty your pockets and leave your mind in a state of deprive poverty. a state of mind that can only fail. And in all that will see to your failure they paint the artists as those who are successful by selling themselves out and selling themselves short for the money. they make whores of women, who pass their image onto the next generation eager to follow, and our males will never see a day of work and will never conform to any rules, and all who follow their ways will fall, never loose perspective of that.

  2. Also as we sit here in 2024. Nas has 16 albums to Rakim's like 6 albums. And Nas has branched out into a business man as well. So Nas stayed making music for 3 decades and Nas branched out as a business man. And Nas is not like a Drake or Jay z or Diddy etc in the sense of being high profile but he still became more outgoing and flashy than Rakim ever was. So its a matter of what life do you wanna live

  3. Rakim never reinvented himself. Every rapper from his era came out with a bang. From Kane, to Slick Rick, and Rakim. None of them reinvented themselves. That’s why he’s not on Nas level. Him and Kool G Rap gave birth to Nas. If you don’t have the ability to make new music, your career will get stuck on pause. Every one keeps talking about PIF or his second album, he only performs maybe 3 songs off PIF and he doesn’t even perform anything off Follow The Leader. Even though Follow The Leader was an MC’s master piece as well as Microphone Fiend.

  4. Man this has aged poorly. Vlad complaining about when there will be a new Nas album. Meanwhile in the present he came out with 6 albums in the past two years.

  5. Ra didn't put out as much work as nas,he was less visible to the later generations vs nas thats why but dont get it twisted….hes one of the most important mc and one of the best to ever do this.

  6. when was NAS last album….NASIR JUNE 15 2018, King's Disease August 21 2020, King's Disease II August 6 2021, Magic December 24 2021, King's Disease III November 11 2022, Magic 2 July 21 2023, Magic 3 September 14 2023

  7. Rakim has mad albums……albums full of tunes, Nas has loads of tunes that are just filler compared to the classics, he has 9/10 tunes, one or two 10/10 tunes and lots of 4/5/6s (in my opinion) – Rakim, sets the standard way higher………thinking out loud, maybe Nas looks good compared to whats out there right now, the bars so much lower, or is it?
