Answers to the most Googled Cannabis Questions

Google has firmly established itself as the world’s most popular search engine, with an eye-popping estimated 86% of market share as of March 2021. But it’s also become a by-word for “find out.” Want to know the answer to a question, how to make something, or how to do something? Google it. Having cannabis questions is no different.

Here’s the skinny on the most Googled cannabis queries over the last 18 months. You asked the questions, so we’ll provide the answers.

Is Cannabis Addictive?

Unlike some drugs, cannabis itself doesn’t contain any addictive properties . The problem of addiction usually lies within the individual using the cannabis. Wanting to use cannabis and needing to use cannabis are very different things; there are no withdrawal symptoms from discontinuing cannabis use, but if you mix tobacco into your joints, for example, you might find some degree of addiction to the nicotine – which is entirely different from being addicted to the cannabis. Like any regular or habitual undertaking, abstaining from cannabis use may require some willpower on your part.

Are There Any Benefits to Cannabis Use?

Yes! Cannabis contains cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive chemical that binds with the body’s endocannabinoid system and helps create homeostasis. In other words, balance – and can positively influence biological and physiological processes. Cannabis’ better-known ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has been proven in studies to provide incredible benefits in inflammation reduction and pain relief, and numerous other benefits.

The medical cannabis industry has exploded. After decades of anecdotal evidence from cannabis users claiming relief from a host of conditions, including pain and inflammation, insomnia, anxiety, eating disorders, seizures, and many more. In fact, the widely-extolled virtues of medicinal cannabis are so great that a range of new cannabis-based medicines is being trialed to break new ground in the treatment of severe medical conditions, such as this 2021 study aiming to use a cannabis-based spray to treat brain tumours.

What is the Difference between Indica and Sativa?

Indica and Sativa are the two most common species of cannabis plant types, with the third being Ruderalis. While there is a great deal of detail in what defines and separates indica and sativa, the widely agreed differences are thus:

Indica strains are more comprehensive, bushier, with broad leaves, and typically higher THC content. They are considered to grow and flower more quickly than sativas and have a higher cannabinoid content. In terms of effect, indica strains are considered more likely to produce a mellowing effect, allowing consumers to chill and relax from the body sensation which accompanies the use of these strains. Indicas are the couch-lock strains.

Cannabis Questions

Sativas, on the other hand, are taller plants with thinner leaves and smaller buds than indicas. They typically take a little longer to grow than indica plants. They offer a more uplifting, creative buzz that some describe as energising, happy, and even euphoric in terms of effect. However, these rules aren’t strict. There can be variations among certain strains within the species – and, of course, hybrid strains, which are entirely different again as they combine features from both types.

Does the Effect of the Hit Increase if I hold it for Longer?

You may have seen people take a draw and hold it for a good ten seconds or so, believing this will amplify the psychoactive buzz. Unfortunately, this would appear to be a myth. The truth is, you absorb the first 80-90% of the THC in the first three seconds or so. Any additional buzz you feel from a longer hold probably comes from depriving your brain of oxygen. If you smoke cigarettes, taking a puff and holding it for ten seconds or so will likely give you the same kind of mild tingling/light-headed effect. And there’s no weed in a cigarette. Sadly.

How can I Lower the Cannabis High?

Overdone it? Not to worry – stop your session and read this article for tips on how to get yourself squared up again. Have something to eat, replenish your fluids with plenty of water, and if you have access to CBD products such as oil or capsules, take some of that to help counter the effects of the high levels of THC in your body. Just make sure there’s no THC in there. You could even pop a couple of Ibuprofen. Tests have indicated that some anti-inflammatory medications can counteract the buzz of THC.

Can the Effect of Marijuana Differ with Strains?

Absolutely. As we touched on in the section on Indica v Sativa above, different strains have different effects. No two strains are identical in terms of effect. Even strains from the same species can vary massively in the punch they pack. Different strains can make you feel creative, focused, uplifted, chilled, happy, energetic, and even horny!

What’s the Difference Between THC and CBD?

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol – that’s the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis that gets you high and carries some medicinal benefits. CBD stands for cannabidiol. This is the non-psychoactive component in the plant which contains medicinal properties and won’t get you high on its own.

Cannabis Questions

CBD is legal in most places around the world, but due to its nature as an extract from the cannabis plant, the regulations differ in different places, meaning not everyone can grow, produce or purchase the products.

Why is Cannabis Illegal in Some Places?

While cannabis continues to move towards a legal status in more parts of the world, primarily due to its medicinal benefits, some still classify the drug as illegal due to its psychoactive properties. However, attitudes toward cannabis continue to evolve, and more and more governments are employing a softer stance on weed. As medical cannabis shows more benefits, hopefully, recreational cannabis will receive a similar fair shake someday soon.

Where can I Find a Medical Marijuana Physician?

Google it! If you’re fortunate enough to live in a part of the world where medical marijuana is legal, hop online and search for medical marijuana physicians and dispensaries in your area. The internet hosts directories of certified medical cannabis clinics, making it easy to find with just a few clicks. Some physicians even offer online consultations.

Can I Buy Cannabis Online?

If the law in your area allows the legal purchasing of cannabis online, yes. If you’re unsure, a quick Google will help you answer the question regarding legality in your area, and if it’s legal, you’re good to go.
