Lyrics:
While in these days of quiet desperation
As I wander through the world in which I live
I search everywhere for some new inspiration
But it’s more than cold reality can give
If I need a cause for celebration
Or a comfort I can use to ease my mind
I rely on my imagination
And I dream of an imaginary time

I know that everybody has a dream
Everybody has a dream
And this is my dream, my own
Just to be at home
And to be all alone…with you

  1. I've never heard this album before and I'll be 60 next year. I'm a trained musician who until this afternoon only knew Joel's singles. I wish I'd heard this in 1977 when I was 14 and just starting to write music……ah well, better late than never. Definitely one of the best albums ever.

  2. Any other album and this is a hit. That's how good The Stranger is! One of my favorite Billy Joel songs for sure. Perhaps his most underrated. Just an awesome energy in this with an incredible arrangement. Love it!

  3. Had it not been for this album and what came after it, many of us wouldn’t be here leaving comments of all sorts on a YouTube video enjoying music from an older time. I personally think this album ranks 2nd of Billy Joel’s (behind 52nd Street) and 3rd overall (behind Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and 52nd Street). However, this song was one I forgot about for a while and it is probably the most underrated song off the album. (“Vienna” is a fan favorite and the rest barring “Get it Right the First Time” made the Greatest Hits I collection.) Still, it is probably my least favorite song on the album solely due to stiff competition.
    While the top 3 are set in stone “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)”, “Get it Right the First Time”, and “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”, the other 6 seem to just fall into a list depending on how i feel that day. Still, “Just the Way You Are”, for me, was the closest song to it in terms of how I rate it. Every song on this album is magnificent, which makes it ridiculously hard to rate them. Essentially it would be;
    1 – Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)
2 – Get it Right the First Time
3 – Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
    4 – all the others

  4. The name of the song is everybody has a dream…but the sad truth is that most of the people don't have any dream/dreams at all, most of the people are in the state of " i will survive"', so this is my advice to all of you out there, dare to dream and dream big! anyway, this album is my favorite billy joel album, thanks billy, take care and god bless.

    Just to be at home
And to be all alone…with you
If I believe in all the words I'm saying
And if a word from you can bring a better day
Then all I have are these games that I've been playing
To keep my hope from crumbling away
So let me lie and let me go on sleeping
And I will lose myself in palaces of sand
And all the fantasies that I have been keeping
Will make the empty hours easier to stand
    Everybody has a dream… (Repeat)

  6. I grew up on Billy's 50 Greatest Hits collection and am just now going through and listening to EVERYTHING for the first time. When I first heard the piano part from The Stranger return at the end of this song, I was walking in the park and I literally had to stop and go, "Oh… whoa." Sooo cool.
