Black soldiers only made up 10% of the union army. White soldiers made up 90%. So no, you did not "damn near free yourselves". You may not like it. You may not want that to be true. You may hate the idea of it. It may be painful & the truth can be painful at times but the fact of the matter is that the union army was made up of 90% white soldiers. You are not as woke as you think you are. You don't want to know the true reason behind Juneteenth & who were the ones that refused to free black slaves because when you find out that it was native americans that did not want to free their slaves then you don't want to believe it. The white man has to be the enemy because hatred of him is the only thing some people can unite for. Your more holy than thou mentality shrouds your deep seeded hate but yet totally forgets the fact that Arabs enslaved far more black africans than most other nations combined long before any white Europeans bought their first slave. We seem to forget that African slaves were rounded up by coastal African tribes by order of black African kings of those tribes. We seem to forget that the creator of the roots tv series based his first books off of fiction rather than reality. Some people actually believe a ship with 20 to 30 men sailed at sea for months to Africa just to get off the ship with scurvy & flintlock muskets & kidnapped several hundred black africans at one time. We seem to forget that it's fiction. We seem to forget that Africans rounded up other africans to meet slave traders on the beaches. They were sold to MANY different contries including Spanish slave traders, European slave traders, & most of all Arab slave traders who by the way were recorded as the most ruthless. People from almost every continent were sold into slavery long before the transatlantic slave trade, including white slaves from several countries. We seem to only want to learn the last 400 years of history & conveniently forget the rest. We don't want to remember slavery in Rome, Persia, Greece, Asia, Egypt, exc. We forget that there were almost 1,000 free black slave owners in the United States during slavery in America. We forget that only less than 1% of Americans owned slaves & that 1% were the mega wealthy that would be equivalent to the Bill gates, Jeff bezos, George Soros, etcetera billionaires of today. There's alot we've forgot. Most of all, we've forgotten that the problem doesn't lie within another race. The problem lies within ourselves.

Everything Dave said is true. Only one slight correction…black Africans were also captured by other black Africans during tribal warfare…and the victors sold the captives to the slavers. So, to say all black people were kidnapped by white people is not entirely true…black Africans are as much to blame as the white slavers who brought us here.
