“This Is Nouveau Swing”
What happens when a jazz man like Donald Harrison mixes his love of dancing to popular music with his understanding of trap music and jazz? Well I just did an acoustic jazz version of the number one song in the world “Old Town Road,” by Lil Nas X. I heard something in the song that I like with it’s country chord structure, trap hip-hop beats and a whole new swagger. I don’t know how it happened but the song is popular with country music fans and hip-hip/soul music fans. Everyone loves this song and it has been number one 13 weeks straight. I challenged myself to find a balance on the song in the acoustic jazz realm that I love. I made my own little video with a few minutes of my version of the song which contains some of the people I love who left a long shadow in the entertainment industry.
My jazz has a factor that is based on the fact that I love to dance so you will see some of the iconic singer/rapper dancers that I love. Look for me doing some James Brown dance moves in tribute to the “God Father of Soul.” The links below are to Lil Nas X tearing it up for country music fans and at the Black Entertainment Television awards show. The personnel are Donald Harrison – saxophone, Thomas Glass – drums, Chris Severin – bass and Shea Pierre – piano
