  1. addiction is not the problem, societys reaction to POOR addicts is the problem , Dont forget the worlds greatest surgeon of his time was a life long user……..you might know the institution named after him……………Dr. Johns Hopkins

  2. First heard this in mid 76 as a 15 yr old white kid from the uk. It made me cry and as a 62 year old I am not ashamed to say it still does, every time I hear it. Gil Scott was a genius and you can feel the pain in his vocal delivery.

  3. I was shock to hear Gil do this song by the last Ms Esther Phillips I been there doing that time a young girl in the Bay Area going to college trying to fit in because every one was but once hook there is a nightmare it years but I been clean for 35 yrs but it isn’t easy and that feeling stays for a life time but after having children I knew I couldn’t let me see where I use to be now at 71 in pain for bone cancer I struggle with the thought that if I was a weak in a 3 world country would I submit god bless any one who had to struggle with the dragon and clean pray look to something u live more

  4. Most powerful words and song I ever heard about addiction. Heard this is Snowfall and another classic song I’ve never come across. Now on my playlist. This song hits close to home with parents who were Heroin Addicts. I cry every time I listen to this man’s words and voice . Thankyou Snowfall for sharing this masterpiece .

  5. I just figured out he is referring to home as a metaphor for dope. So when he’s saying it might not be such a bad idea if he never goes home again he actually saying it might not be a bad idea if he never does dope again. Deep!

  6. The man was brilliant! But pained in life. I saw him in 1974 at ' Cuse. White powder frat brothers had was so good he stayed 4 days after a one-niter! But he layed it down with a new tune called " The Bottle"!

  7. Love how they crank the vocal reverb in the final verse for "home was once an empty vacuum" Chilling production for an even more chilling line, really adds to the feeling of despair and emptiness
