Japanese audiophiles are spending thousands of dollars on high-end stereo systems. Some are even installing private utility poles for a personal source of electricity, all in a quest for aural perfection. Photo: Juro Osawa/The Wall Street Journal

He goes through all that and doesn't have a R2R
Guess i know what im doing
takeo morida, the retured attorney, has the will and the budget to experience these things for himself. very cool. the mans on a journey, and hes a helluva navigator to boot.
At 82 years old how good can his hearing be?
So do non-Japanese audiophiles go to extremes. It's the nature of folks passionately devoted to a hobby to spend ridiculous money and time on it. Some will spend multiple thousands of dollars for small or questionable improvements feeling that they'll notice the differences over time. It's true we do tend to notice small differences over long term listening than we do on brief exposure.
I'm watching this using subtitles – without audio.
obsession is a disease
Hear that emir of qatar hifi equipment cost more than million $.
Imagine forcing an audiophile to use airpods for the rest of their lives
Yes extreme, but obsessed audiophile, yes indeed.
Thats a very depraved story.
He can't have a women living like that…..or can't keep one.
99% of audiophiles are just needlessly obsessive.
Dude went outside, listened the birds, and criticized their inability to produce crystal clear chirps.
"My girlfriend" the guy is old enough to be a grandfather… jeez.
I call it an illness.
The guy who's living in the small apartment has his essential properties out of order.
im searching for a video where a japanese guy gets two huge blue speakers delivered to his house. does anyone remeber that?
I wish I were on these guys' wills
The room is as important, and maybe more important, then the gear. So the second guy is completely wrong.
Is this 'Not sharing electricity' thing scientifically valid?
This PASSION…
I thought japanese guys likes lo-fi ish
where's the whole documentary? that's just the teaser?
a great way to enjoy life
I knew I need my own power grid !
I can understand those guys
apparently the second guy doesn't even own an iron
Seriously? A 1 minute report. This could easily be a Netflix documentary.
Laugh all you like. I live in the middle of a big city and I hate dirty power. It takes away the enjoyment of my music listening. At around 11 pm the system comes alive and it sound awesome.
Lame
Japanese go extreme length on everything
Appreciate this and the passion. I am a music lover and “second base” audiophile. Budget is everything. And with that said, at some point— good enough is good enough
