RIP, Miss Wilson/Mrs. Burton.
Love me some Nancy Wilson!!!! R.I.P.
What key is this in?
I don't think there was A-day growing up that I did not go to my oldest sister's home and here this young lady records records playing throughout the house my sister who I love dearly was swear by the Lord himself that she missed Nancy Wilson was the only female singer that ever graced this Earth Thank you miss Wilson may you rest in heaven and thank you for all the good memories you've given my sister
Sooooo WOMANLY! Back when the unspoken truth was LAID DOWN ELOGQUENTLY!!!
So great!I just heard this yesterday on Jazz 24.So cool devastating and understated.
This was originally from "New Faces of '52" produced by Leonard Sillman.
June Carroll (Sillman's sister) sang it in the show.
Nancy was always so cool and it shows in her songs. Guess Who I Saw Today, one of her best!
I met Nancy Wilson at Glen Echo Amusement Park in 1968 where I work at a hotdogs stand for American Retailers of America. She had taken her son there and was absolutely shocked I knew who she was since she was a jazz artist and I was still in high school. I explained I knew her and her music through my parents who loved her dearly. I became a fan back then and remained a fan throughout my life.
Thinking back on life in New York, everybody did not play Nancy at home.
This was sophisticated black Harlem cafe/bar life music for sure. Ma and her friends talking (around) me as a child with this music playing in the background. Me sponging everything in.
Different planet!
Almost impossible to explain how things in America were back then.
Always ask this question,
What was life in America like when people liked their music?
All you gotta do is listen
Ladies and Gentlemen……..
the Incomparable Nancy Wilson
You're so late getting home from the office, Did you miss your train?
Where you caught in the rain?
No, don't bother to explain.
Can I fix you a quick martini?
As a matter of fact
I'll have one with you,
For to tell you the truth
I've had quite a day too!
Guess who I saw today, my dear!
I went in town to shop around
For something new,
And thought I'd stop and have a bite
When I was through.
I looked around for someplace near,
And it occurred to me
Where I had parked the car,
There is a most attractive French cafe
And bar.
It really wasn't very far.
The waiter showed me to a dark,
Secluded corner,
And when my eyes became accustomed
To the gloom,
I saw two people at the bar
Who were so much in love,
That even I could spot it clear
Across the room.
Guess who I saw today, my dear!
I've never been so shocked before.
I headed blindly for the door.
They didn't see me passing through,
Guess who I saw today? [Repeat: x3]
I saw you!
Timeless! One of the greatest voices ever!
Smooth impeccable and definitely unforgettable I was 10 years old Loved this music interlude then At the age of 72 Love it now.
Sempre fui fã da Nancy !!! maravilha
The smoothest way to tell him he’s “ busted”. Love this song
Perfection.
THE coldest " You're busted ! " song, ever. Nancy delivers with delicious irony.
Smooth, Aloha from Honolulu, Hawaii
My Girl, mature and lovely simply nancy……
I think when we think of great vocalist we should think of great story tellers first.
Grand
whatever happens to me today, this week, etc – i wont see something more head-scratching than 63 people giving this a thumbs down. Mind boggling. Cheaters maybe?
Hey, guess who… A beautiful song…
I never had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Nancy Wilson in person, but I wish I had! What a marvelous song. It brings images I've seen played out so many times back in the days of dark bars, soft tunes and good drinks. I have had the pleasure of hearing Sonji Kimmons sing this song in person. She did Nancy credit and Sonji's version was true and pure as this original. Those were the days…indeed!
I Love NANCY WILSON, VOICE IT'S SO SOFT & BEAUTIFUL.
Did you call drop
Nancy my namesake
She is absolutely the best female jazz singer EVER !!!!
Im only 77 yrs. old, but she is simply the very best jazz singer in my lifetime !!!!
Quite a song, quite a voice, and certainly, per album cover, quite a beautiful young woman.
Woke up with this song on my mind. Reminded me of my childhood. Parents listening to NW. Continue to RIP Nancy, mom, & dad.
the great ones know which songs to sing and how to sing them. she's one of the best
I work at a car rental company and had to drop a wonderful customer off at her house. She told me a great story about her father being a CNN camera man and her mother being apart of the black movement in the 60’s in NY. She had the best stories, but one was when her parents were friends with Nancy Wilson and they used to all sing and play the piano together when she was a child. Pretty cool story
