Here is a tribute video I cut honoring Nichelle Nichols for her work as Lt. (Cmdr.) Uhura in the world of Star Trek for the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC) in 2008.
Fun fact: She was about to quit and Martin Luther King Jr. Told her she could not quit because not only was she a woman she was black and she was part of the bridge officers.
Nichelle Nichols is smoking. Sexy, beautiful, and full of vim. I was such a little kid watching TOS reruns that I didn't realize this till I was an adult. (You know, back when grown-ups were just grown-ups.) We were lucky to have her. Thank you, Nichelle.
2:36 – I remember that episode of the animated series where a planet of women takes control of all the men on the enterprise and Uhura saves the entire day! It really made you think about what a good idea it was to have a diverse crew! It was Uhura's moment to shine like Captain Kirk in a company of Heroes!
My first infatuation with a black woman at a very young age! Was hooked on Star Trek when they used to show the reruns in the mid 70s I was about 7 or 8 years old. She was a beautiful woman! Broke down color barriers as far as I'm concerned! Job well done my dear you will be missed.
So saddened to learn of Nichelle's passing. She added such delicate grace to the entire series and beauty to the Communications station on the Enterprise bridge! Her reprised role as Uhura in the six movies spawned off the original series was the perfect feminine compliment to her male counterparts! Nichelle, my dear, you shall forever sail among the stars! Rest, beautiful lady and know that you are deeply missed by fans throughout the world! Uhura shall always be your crowning achievement in the saga that is Star Trek!
This amazingly beautiful woman certainly opened the door and left an indelible mark in film and in her life. To the very end, her beauty was radiant and she, was stellar. I thought when I was a young girl watching her, what a beautiful woman. And she was black and in space! Back in the day, that was a serious milestone. Thank God for the trailblazers that opened the doors. Bless her and she wasn't anyone's stereotype. She was strong, proud, beautiful and elegant. She will always be missed.
