  1. A mind-blowing song. Very, very true. This is what happens when you piss off the wrong person; one who is not afraid to speak truth to power. Righteous passion and anger. Bravo, Ms. Nina!

  2. My elderly neighbor told me about a wonderful concert that Marion Anderson gave at our local university. Like a groupie she approached the famous singer to meet her. When she learned that she had no lodging and no way to insist on a room, JoAnne told her she’d get her a room and feed her dinner. My neighbor was a liberal lesbian and a graduate student managing a floor in a dormitory. They enjoyed a smorgasbord of snacks as dinner and had splendid company and a memory. Why did I mention she was a lesbian? She only shared this with me because she understood that I’m not judgemental. I get along well with lesbians. After all, we like a lot of the same things. I miss JoAnne. She was an ambassador of good will. Notice people, engage with them. I had a great laugh with a young Black man as we waited for the proprietor took a bathroom break. He was standing outside the door and my first thought was , ugh, a panhandler. When I met that locked door I laughed and said So that’s why you’re just standing. Hey, you let me try that locked door just to have a laugh at me? We both laughed and filled the time pleasantly in conversation. If society’s fabric is torn. Stitch it up, stop seething and cowering. I’m a 68 year old white guy. When I offered him a cigarette we had our excuse to talk and accept each other. I believe that every liberal should have a red neck friend and vice versa. MTG is suggesting that people who reject the politics of hate should leave red states. In short, segregate on the basis of political party. (How do you gerrymand that?) That’s sure to lead to a dearth of very unskilled labor in Blue states and a 600 mile drive for a Montana resident to get a dental implant and 800 miles to get an abortion. That is if they can secure a Oregon visa. They already suffer from brain drain. How much worse can it get?

  3. Nina Simone sang this song in protest after the bombing of the 16th Street church In Birmingham, Alabama. She had a lot of pent up anger because of racism in the US that she expressed in this song. She eventually left the US because of racism and moved to France and never returned.

  4. Powerful. Because she was speaking against evil and doing it with class, everyone and their dog knows who Nina Simone is. History has already forgotten (for better or worse) the racists asshats who made her lose her rest.
