Hutch Mansell fails to defend himself or his family when two thieves break into his suburban home one night. The aftermath of the incident soon strikes a match to his long-simmering rage. If a guy disarms himself first, I'm going to question everything before I go in to attack him. Then when he comes back for more after being thrown out a window. I'm not still attacking him. Same goes for if I'm a henchman, like in kill bill, if some lady with a sword decapitates a hundred of my friends, my ego is not big enough to think that I can take her on also.
There should have been a scene with the doctors being astonished at the fact the man that half killed them all, saved the last guy through a tracheostomy. Still though, rad movie.
I feel that Hutch took that first punch not because he wasn't expecting it, but because he wanted to feel what a real punch was like again. Not only would this trigger his adrenaline and awareness of the situation, but it would also bring out some fun and reality for him.
