THE 1978 Phil Manzanera album "K-SCOPE," is a brilliant tour de force album!
I was on YouTube and this little gem came out of the blue. There should be more of Phil talking about his guitar work.
Listen carefully to Roxy music and your hear his influence coming through
Wow he’s a legend
Top riff, top song, top guitar, top bloke. In summary: top.
very nice
The harmonica was from 10cc eh? I wonder if was originally an invention by Godley and Creme. It would make sense as they also created the gizmotron.
has any written out the tab for this?
The fact he knew 88keys did that is awesome
it all makes sense now!!!!
That's one of the reasons Phil's also known as "El Magnifico" by David Gilmour and his audiences.
Fuck me at least get his name right Phil
Very interesting. Thanks✌️
Yeah and let me guess he’s suing for royalties because that few seconds of guitar didn’t get cleared properly by Ye or Jay?
This is a bad ass guitar riff.
A genius!
Kenye West
I love Phil''s playing. I don't think he ever found the right vehicle for his work. He should do theme songs and soundtracks for ITV dramas. This particular lick would sound great leading into a hospital or mystery drama. Everybody else is playing scales or melodies. Also, advertisers could save a lot of money using his stuff for Car Adverts and such instead of paying royalties for 40 year old rock tunes. Check out the guitar work on TV Comedy "Last Man Standing". It is phenomenal.
The riff we hear at the beginning of the video is different to what Phil demonstrates. The final two notes are a hammer-on on the D string: open D to E.
Thank you for being part of my absolute favorite song of all time. Thank you!
can anyone tell me what me means by "play it in a" ?
Guessing Phil got some pretty fat checks thanks to the Jay z/Kayne tune. Good for him. Legendary guitarist.
"kenya" lol
What is the gradiant x? A reverb tank?
One of my favorite guitarists and one of the main reasons I built and own a Firebird.
The hardest part of playing that riff is not going bonkers by the end of the song. Play it once – oooh, nice riff; play it a few times – hey, powerful oldtime blues feels good; play it for the entire song – arrrghh, nooooo ! I'm in repetitive riff Hell, my fingers are no longer my own !
Phil is a fucking genius…very underrated
