I have recently learned what it means to have the blues and translate it into your instrument. This man knew Oh did this man know. Just listing to this track once I knew he knew and for longer and harder than me I tip my hat to you Mr Blackwell.
A 1923 Jimmy Cox composition. Covered in 1926 by Bessie Smith with some ragtime influences and Scrapped Blackwell 1929 more pure bluesy version. Both are greats.
Great tune! Played this tune with a band in Atlanta Georgia area called Guilty. Thanks for letting me relive these old tunes that we played before and we've loved to hear again and we thank you so much brings back a lot of memories God bless
John Frusciante has an early track that shares similar guitar phrasing as well as melody. It’s from Niandra LaDes, though I can’t recall whether it’s a titled or “untitled #” at this moment
I know a version of this from a Bessie Smith recording. It didn't have all the verses this one has, and several of the lines were switched and combined. That one was released in 1929, not sure of what year this one is.
John Lennon and Harry Nilsson did this, too on Pussycats lp
I've been dead for a 100 years and I wrote this song when I was a ghost 40 years after I died also invented helicopters when I was 2
