  1. Ah, people, New Orleans in the day. Grew up in Baton Rouge, 70 miles away but ‘Nawlins’ was my second home. Many of my great aunts and uncles lived there and we visited seems like weekly. Had an aunt who lived on Jackson Avenue and an uncle who was the Zulu King in the late 40s. He rode a big Harley, one of the few black men to own and drive a motorcycle in those years. The music was all around us, like fried fish and boiled crawfish. My uncle owned a bar on Melpomene and the place overflowed with blues. Great musicians, too many to mention here, came from that era, the Neville Brothers and Willie Tee, to name just two. Lincoln Beach was the hangout for black children of that era and the music flowed like water as we listened outside the bars waiting for our parents to emerge. Segregation was the order of the day but we gave little thought to it as children. ‘55 Chevies and a swim in the lake on a sultry day were what mattered to us and, yes, the great music and the men and women who made it. By the time Aaron Neville had released this classic I was already two years in the USAF but every time I heard, it wherever I happened in the world to be, brought me home to ‘Nawlins’. By the way, I never heard ANYONE from New Orleans EVER call it ‘The Big Easy’. Maybe white folks did that but we certainly did not.

  2. These lyrics are Serious! Hug your Loved ones today! They might not be here tomorrow and you could live the rest of your life alone! I'm grateful for the time with my 2 Magical parents!

  3. If you want something to play with
Go and find yourself a toy
Baby, my time is too expensive
And I'm not a little boy
    If you are serious
Don't play with my heart, it makes me furious
But if you want me to love you
Then, baby, I will, girl, you know I will
    Tell it like it is
Don't be ashamed to let your conscience be your guide
But I know deep down inside of me
I believe you love me, forget your foolish pride
Life is too short to have sorrow
You may be here today and gone tomorrow
You might as well get what you want
So go on and live, baby, go on and live
    Tell it like it is
I'm nothing to play with, go and find yourself a toy
    But I
    Tell it like it is
    My time is too expensive
And I'm not your little boy
Mmm, tell it like it is
