Jimmy Castor – " I consider myself a successful black entertainer, but a superstar I am not " – Aug 18th 1977
(African American) Gerry Thomas, who played trumpet and piano in the band, recalls Its just Begun.
The things I like to do, arranging and orchestration, Jimmy always gave me the freedom to expand the things we were doing so he would be open, matter of fact, Its Just Begun came out of a song I had done, it was completely different, it had the basic (Horns) motif, of Its Just Begun & he & his partner, (African American) John Pruit, they was at my mothers house, & they would listen to it & they would say, well lets change this and lets change that & that's how Its just Begun came about. – 2018
Samples aside and Bob James getting the credit ( er James Brown ) no matter how you slice it if I hear a song that is halfway decent that puts in a sample it takes me to that place that says the originators didn’t have to copy someone less prolific than them…
