The Punisher (1989) Trailer

The Punisher is an action film from 1989 starring Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle, directed by Mark Goldblatt from a screenplay by Boaz Yakin. It is loosely based on the Marvel Comics’ character the Punisher. The film changes many details of the comic book origin and the main character does not wear the trademark “skull”. The Punisher was filmed in Sydney, Australia and also featured Louis Gossett, Jr., Jeroen Krabbé, Kim Miyori, Nancy Everhard and Barry Otto.
Artisan Entertainment and Lionsgate attempted to reboot the comic book character twice with 2004’s The Punisher, and 2008’s Punisher: War Zone.

  1. To my eyes, even without the skull costume element, and the altered origin, this is STILL the definitive film Punisher in my eyes. It felt like a Punisher comic of the time, and Dolph had the look and the gravity for the role. REALLY underrated!

  2. For me, Dolph Lundgren was the best choice of The Punisher ever…He got the look, the skill, the hair, the height, the voice, but unfortunately he hadn't the Costume of skull on his chest..Better than Thomas Jane or Ray Stevenson…n the movie wasn't produced by Marvel just Australian independent studio in 1989..

  3. sure, its a cheesy 80's actionflick loosely based on the comic ,but there's something about that decade that made that type of movies so much fun to watch.
after the 80's most actionflicks were just to cleancut, they missed that raw feeling 80's movie had.
