Zebrahead is a 1992 romantic thriller film, produced by Oliver Stone, written and directed by Anthony Drazan and starring Michael Rapaport and N’Bushe Wright.
Turns 30 today! Michael Rapaport and N' Bushe Wright play a white Jewish boy and black girl who fall in love in Detroit Can things still change or stay the same? Is America alright with couples from various backgrounds? Should we always just stick to our tribe? Nothing is ever about race or is it just ignorance? There's hostility, judgement, hatred, jealousy, even violence when it comes to certain individuals feeling threatened by thought of whites and blacks intermingling 'Zebrahead' looks at both sides of the picture and there's never a straight answer This doesn't end on a satisfactory note but something to truly think about Wright and Rapaport give very compelling performances and some definitive arguments about where they stand There's clear-eyed affection for his characters even if the speeches towards the end are so what didactic The hate and the conflict will always exist even though things may seem to slightly get better The movie has a stagy presence; sort of like a 1950's teleplay with a social conscience than a stormy present-day tale of racial strife This speaks full of honesty and hope to urban teens Racial definition can be the least important thing of anybody Quite remarkable of what it says about friendship, love and antagonisms between young urban blacks and whites Bigotry can be both nurtured and perpetuated whether home or at school No cookie-cutter material here because the teenagers are actually presented as real people
I used to watch the hell out of this movie back in the day. Too bad so many people been sleepin on it for so long. N'Bushi Wright (I think that's how you spell it) was fine as hell and a great actor. Still watching this in 2020 y'all. Show me love.
Later Dee went to a catholic school and changed,he started working at a store and drawing. Nikki had a baby from a guy named Raheem after moving to New York
True story: I made a music video with the help of my friend Snow cone doing Camera work for me and told him my idea of paying homage to this film by recreating the Del Ray grass fire lighting scene played by Kevin Corrigan after I had identified the filming location one day while working in the hood. And Snow Cone says, "I was in that movie." I said, word? He said yeah, I was working at Skateland on Alter Rd when they filmed there. Weird synchronicity, man. Just fucking weird. I love this film. Nas got his big break from this film with the track "Halftime". Oliver Stone was killin' it with this one. The high school is Cody High School at Exit 9 off the freeway! Wuttup doe, Detroit?!
Back when highscoolers looked like 30year olds who been thru the ringer lol
I have never heard of this movie but it’s on Amazon Prime
