How To Celebrate The New Year With Cannabis
It’s late December, and party season is in full swing. And what better way to celebrate than by getting high? If you’re wondering how to make the most of the big night, we’ve got you covered with our guide to ringing in the new year with cannabis.
Which Cannabis Strains To Try This New Year
New Year’s Eve is traditionally a late one. So, you’ll need some stamina if you want to see the party through. That might not happen if you don’t choose your weed wisely, so it’s essential to ensure you’ve got the right gear with you.
Blazing a heavy indica strain too early in the night could send you straight to couch-lock city. And have you longing for your pyjamas before the party even starts. On the other hand, the energetic euphoria provided by sativa cultivars will help you become the life and soul of the party.
Right Strain Right Time
It’s, therefore, best to stick to sativa dominant strains early on. For example, if you’ve just arrived and want to get your conversation juices flowing, you might want to try Zkittlez. Known for its cerebral and euphoric high, this high-THC strain is excellent for social situations and is the perfect cannabis cultivar for a New Year’s Eve party.
Bruce Banger, meanwhile, is the kind of strain you’ll always find knocking around at a shindig, thanks to the long-lasting creative buzz it provides. Other popular party cultivars include Jack Herer and Sugar Haze. Though, it’s best to go easy on the latter as it has a very high THC content and can hit pretty hard.
Later in the night, you might want to switch to something more relaxing when the party winds down. This is where the indica-heavy strains come in.
Of course, there are loads of indicas to choose from, but OG Kush is always a good place to start. Known for its relaxing, full-body stone, this classic cultivar is perfect for chilling out at the end of a party. Bringing your vibe down gently.
Northern Lights is another excellent choice and is one of the most popular strains among stoners who want to relax their minds and bodies. Alternatively, White Widow can always be called upon to calm your mood and is another excellent late-party cultivar.
Celebrate With Edibles
If you’re planning on trying cannabis edibles this new year, make sure you get your timing spot on. Remember, it can take up to a couple of hours for the THC to kick in after ingesting weed this way. And the high can be very intense. It’s, therefore, a good idea to eat your hash brownies, cookies, cakes or other goodies early in the night. Patience is very much a virtue regarding edibles, so don’t be too hasty with re-dosing if you haven’t felt anything. We’ve all been there.
Edibles are particularly useful if you’re going to a party without a smoking area and don’t fancy heading out into the December night to smoke a joint. All sorts of food items can be infused with cannabinoids, but gummies are among the most practical and discreet.
Making your own weed gummies is surprisingly easy, although first, you’ll need to make a cannabis tincture. If you want to learn how to do that, check out our recipe for gummies.
If you’d rather bake, then you’ll probably need to start by making cannabutter. While there are a few different methods for doing so, the most crucial step is to decarboxylate your weed before adding it to the melted butter.
Decarboxylation occurs when cannabis is exposed to heat and converts THCA into the psychoactive compound THC. To decarboxylate your weed, simply heat it in the oven at about 250 degrees Fahrenheit for around half an hour. Then add your pot to melted butter and let the whole thing simmer for a couple of hours before straining away the plant material.
You can do all sorts of things with cannabutter, but if you’re hosting a party and want to provide some inspired finger food, why not give our cannabis-infused cheesy baked potatoes a try this new year?
Mixing Cannabis and Alcohol
Of course, you may prefer to drink your weed on New Year’s Eve. At this point, we have to point out that cross-fading with cannabis and alcohol can be dangerous and that all substances should be enjoyed in moderation. You might want to make your own cannabis cocktails this new year.
Either infuse your favourite alcohol with decarboxylated weed by heating the two together for a few hours or add a few drops of cannabis tincture into your drink.
Pace Yourself And Check Your Environment
If you’re going to a party with lots of people you don’t know, then it’s probably best not to turn up stoned. Especially if you don’t know what the setup is like. Getting high can lead to anxiety if you aren’t in a comfortable setting. It’s always reassuring to know that there’s a quiet space to retreat to if things get a bit heavy.
Wait until you’ve scoped out the party before sparking up. And only do so if you’re surrounded by familiar people who put you at ease. Ideally, there should be a cosy spot with a sofa or bed on which you can relax. Think twice about using cannabis this new year if any of these ingredients are lacking.
You might also want to have some CBD oil with you to take the edge off your high if you accidentally overdo it. Failing that, ask your host for peppercorns or citrus fruit, which can counteract THC’s effects. Helping you sober up when you’re a bit too stoned.
Last but not least, make sure you’ve got a ride home arranged well in advance. You shouldn’t even think about driving while high. One should always have a designated driver in your group or plan on getting a taxi. Otherwise, your new year could get off to a terrible start.
