Posting this video as my personal frustration for the destruction of literally every institution in my community does not mean that I am not terrified by the gruesome killing of #GeorgeFloyd. I am a Turkish immigrant and have been subject to serious xenophobic and islamophobic discrimination similar to African American members of this society and have a real and deep emotional connection with them. I raise a daughter with a Muslim name and I have witnessed similar events in my home country where tens of people died in suicide attacks. So please don’t compare apples with oranges and try to dictate a false dichotomy to me. #BlackLivesMatter
I am a South #Minneapolis resident where protests for George Floyd’s tragic killing by a police officer went violent. I have been witnessing the horrifying destruction of almost every institution and business that has been supporting my community.
– Our post office: Burned down, mail trucks were stolen and destroyed
– Our public library: Looted
– Our restaurants: Burned down
– Our grocery stores: Burned down
– Our play grounds: Destroyed
This can’t be the way to protest! This is mindless vandalism!
