rakim has spoken a lot on politics and religion, and this record is probably the most forward, focused, and assertive track he's made politically. i did some light reading on fred hampton and the BPP, and this song captures a lot of it very well. the protected individuals and regulated the police through what's essentially an armed militia. they utilized second amendment to great effect, they protested openly, they disregarded identity politics, and they fought against american imperialism and the capitalist class structure. Very interesting group.
I don't wanna sound disrespectful but this song should've been the end credits to the film. In 4mins Rakim captured the entire film and even went beyond. Anyway I hope he continues writing more music for media.
