Lyrics:
Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing, goin’ on
We both know that it’s wrong
But it’s much too strong
To let it go now

We meet every day at the same cafe
Six-thirty and no one knows she’ll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the juke box plays our favorite songs

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones)
We got a thing, goin’ on
We both know that it’s wrong
But it’s much too strong
To let it go now

We gotta be extra careful
That do we don’t build our hopes up too high
Because she’s got her own obligations
And so, and so, do I

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones)
We got a thing, goin’ on
We both know that it’s wrong
But it’s much too strong
To let it go now

Well, it’s time for us to be leaving
It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside
Now she’ll go her way and I’ll go mine
Tomorrow we’ll meet
The same place, the same time

Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin’ on
We gotta be extra careful
We can’t afford to build our hopes up too high
I wanna meet and talk with you
At the same place, the same cafe, the same time
And we gonna hold hands like we used to
We gonna talk it over, talk it over
We know, they know, and you know what I know that it was wrong
But our thing is strong, we gotta let ’em know now
That we gotta thing going on, a thing going on

  1. I am a 60 years old German and I love this song since I've heard it the first time in the 70's on my cassette Player. Today I saw Mr. Paul the first time. What a beautiful voice. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece.

  2. There is sooo much going on with this song & me. 6th grade, learning how to slow dance on the sly, church 3 times a week, knowing my mom was a cheater & never telling anybody, walking home from school with friends whose parents were (gasp!) divorced AND who had their own housekey! My first bedroom all to myself after we moved to a bigger house… Thinking about boys in a whole different way that I didn't yet understand… And the music! The orchestration of this song was as fascinating to me as the lyrics were titillating. And Don Cornelius and Soul Train were my guilty pleasure.
I can't dance worth a damn because I was raised by super strict parents in the Church of Christ where the joke goes something like this: 'pre-marital sex is forbidden because it might lead to dancing!'
Deanna Wright, on Hunnicut in Dallas, we danced in your house when your parents were at work and I think of you every time I hear this! I hope you're having a great life!
I'm white & over 60. Soul Train rocked my world & Don Cornelius was The Man! When he passed by his own hand I was sad but not shocked – that man was in control of his stuff right to the end. Rest in Peace, Everybody!
