Brady Watt – A Tribe Called Quest Upright Bass Mashup

Praise to the most high upright Bassgod Ron Carter who laid a lot of these lines on the LOW END THEORY. Tribe incorporated upright bass HEAVY in their music, it’s like the backbone of their sound. I’m 5 months in on my upright bass journey here.

Shouts to my older stepbrother Teddy Dillon (RIP) who put me on to them around age 10 in like 1996.

Endless love and respect to the Tribe: Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Q-Tip, and Jarobi.

  1. That instrument is way outdated and obsolete. Not gona lie there's plenty of badass jazz players that can slap those strings amazingly but an instrument has to fit like a fake leg.

  2. Hi Brady, great playing as ever. BTW you might want to watch your right hand technique. I went from electric bass to double bass and used the same right hand technique from one to the other. After a few months I ended up with chronic tendinitis and had to stop playing for 2 years. Back to normal now, but it became abundantly clear why the old jazz masters (Ray Brown, Stanley Clarke, Ron Carter, etc) play closer to the bridge an often use 2 fingers. Hope this helps you avoid what I had to endure. All the best.
