Lyrics:
Grandma’s hands clapped in church on Sunday morning
Grandma’s hands played a tambourine so well
Grandma’s hands used to issue out a warning
She’d say, “Billy don’t you run so fast
Might fall on a piece of glass
Might be snakes there in that grass,”
Grandma’s hands

Grandma’s hands sooth the local unwed mother
Grandma’s hands used to ache sometimes and swell
Grandma’s hands used to lift her face and tell her
She’d say, “Baby Grandma understands
That you really loved that man
Put yourself in Jesus’ hands.”
Grandma’s Hands

Grandma’s hands used to hand me piece of candy
Grandma’s hands picked me up each time I fell
Grandma’s hands, boy they really came in handy
She’d say, ” Mattie don’t you whip that boy
What you want to spank him for?
He didn’t drop no apple core,”
But I don’t have Grandma anymore
If I get to heaven I’ll look for
Grandma’s hands

  1. My great grandmother transitioned two years ago, this is one of her favorite songs. It became one of my favorites growing up listening to it. Today is her 95th birthday and as hard as today is this song is helping me smile through the tears

  2. Unfortunately my grandma was not a good person, on the contrary my grandpa was the best person in the world I've ever known I hope he's in a good place R.I.P 1994

  3. Have loved this song even from childhood May parents told me that my grandmother delivered me at home .My other siblings didn't know that our Mom was pregnant because she had lost 4 babies between me and my 3 older siblings. My Grandmother was a Midwife who worked with Doctor Duckett (local Black doctor here in York County SC.She delivered many babies in York and Chester Countries, SC. I knew and loved her so much, and thanked God for her so much. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of her presence in my life. I continue to be so thankful to God at this stage of life (age 79) for my fantastic parents and grandparents and this beautiful rendition of this song.❤ RIP Loved Ones

  4. It seems that today’s the birthday of this remarkable man who left such a wonderful legacy in his music. From the Still Bill documentary in 2009 I saw someone I truly admired for his humanity and soulfulness as much as for his artistry. His passing in 2020 was sad loss but I’d like to say thank you for the music.
