Everlast On The Hidden Backstory Of House Of Pain’s Mega-Hit ‘Jump Around’ | People’s Party Clip

In this clip from People’s Party, host Talib Kweli and co-host Jasmin Leigh talk with House of Pain frontman Everlast about his mega-hit “Jump Around.” Everlast shares the backstory of the song — including the fact that Ice Cube passed on the beat. He also addresses the source of what just might be the world’s most controversial sample. When Kweli remarks on the fact that the track launched around the same time as Kriss Kross’s “Jump,” Everlast tells the story of rushing their song onto the radio after learning that Joe Nicolo, co-founder of Ruffhouse Records, had heard the track and created a similar beat and theme for Kriss Kross.

For the deep hip-hop heads, Everlast’s story of having Pete Rock on the track’s remix is a must-see, as is the story of Pete’s only time performing with House of Pain live.

  1. He’s the reason I had so Muslim friends in detention centers as a teenager and didn’t get treated like the rest of the white kids like lil bitches cuz I didn’t pig either

  2. I'll serve your ass like John McEnroe if your girl stands up I'm smacking the hoe word to your Mom's I came to drop bombs I got more rhymes than the Bible's got Psalms.

  3. House Of Pain was way better than Kris Kross and the Jump Around was a banger for sure , Everlast went from Rhyme Syndicate doing almost R&B type music and went hardcore with that plus they had a much longer and prosperous career and kept it going w/Ill Bill and Slaine doing La Coka Nostra which i'm also a fan . He left after the 1ST album but i got respect for Everlast no doubt . Props to him .

  4. I have a theory if someone has a good sounding talking voice, they will normally sound good singing. Unless you're the dude from smashing pumpkins. Cool dude, shit singing voice.

  5. As much of a b*tch move that was to steal the song idea…I love both tracks and they’re both a big part of my childhood so I cant be that upset. But if I was this dude at that time I certainly would of been

  6. feeling any sort of way…regarding trump..the way this fool did….for me there's no condemnation worse than participating in that kind of matrix fake reality. after that i cant really mess with an artist, knowing that he's licensed himself as a propaganda tool. unless he's just a useful idiot that believes there's anything real about the wwe-style fake political landscape we're in. it's so fake.
