Rob Swift X-ecutioner Style

When I first started DJing i wanted to be as good as my older brother. I eventually learned everything he new and I aimed to reach the level of DJs I heard on the radio. After perfecting all of their mixes I strived to attain the technicality of the DJs I saw competing in battles. Once I mastered all of their tricks, I felt ready to unleash all I knew on the world.

Knowing I had aspirations of competing in the popular battles of the time (New Music Seminar/DMC), my friend Juju (Beatnuts) decided to introduce me to another neighborhood DJ, Dr. Butcher. I recall going to his house with Juju, equipped with all I knew. Ready to showcase my skill on his turntables. He let me get on first and I did all I learned from my various influences. Then Dr. Butcher got on the set, displaying the most original style I ever saw. Butcher helped me realize that up until then, I was practicing to be as good as the DJs I looked up to. He would go on to help me change that and discover myself.

I remember taking my first Introduction to Psychology course during freshman year in College and realizing what would separate me from all others is if I took more of cerebral approach to DJing and developing battle routines. Gradually I started to cultivate my own unique style. Whenever I touched a pair of turntables, I wanted the first thought in the minds of my audience to be “What the hell made him think of doing that?” What followed were turntable compositions like my “Bridge” routine, “Nobody Beats The Biz” and “Funky For You”….

  3. Everytime I watch this routine it inspires me to stretch my mind way past I think it can go. This routine makes me wonder what you had to sacrifice in life at the time to get to that point back then. This is a true embodiment of practice makes perfect. Its crazy how Rob and the other XMen had an idea in the mind of what they wanted the routines to sound like and actually manifested it. Rob, YOU HAVE TRULY INSPIRED ME TO ACHIEVE MORE FROM WATCHING THIS ROUTINE. Thank You Brother!!!!

  4. I gotta say as a huge fan Its always great to see talented people who are not out for billions of dollars but truly respect the art form. Rob definitely was part of a very short list of people that brought my inspiration to start D'Jing, taught me to strive to be different in what ever I do.

  5. Had to raid this comment section. This is my first time seeing this routine. This is an older clip but it STILL BLEW MY MIND! Crazy how it was a routine you can dance to. Totally absorbed that energy you through on the stage. Keep moving!

  10. When you did the stopping the turntable part and pushing the safer with your back you did a similar routine in a video I saw in YouTube with you battling roc raida! But instead of drinking water you dried your face with a towel! Its freaking so amazing and creative! What a show! Wish I was born in this era where sera to didn't exist… I know I would of learned a lot more about djing.. I can't imagine myself cueing all the marks with stickers.. people don't realize how much time is dedicate..
